Alberto Garcia-Alix

Spanish photographer Alberto Garcia-Alix has been making great photographs since 1976. Though much of his work consists of personal images of himself and his friends, he captures the people, times, energy and emotions with amazing honesty and clarity. Always using black-and-white film, he talks about his process, and his love of the “slow time” required by analog photography. In the words of Garcia-Alix, in the time between when he takes a picture, develops the film, and prints a photograph, he has “time to dream.”

This interview was recorded at the Maison européenne de la photographie in Paris, France, at the opening of a major exhibition. Interview by Jim Casper / LensCulture. Camera work by Clara Abi-Nader. Editing by Clara Abi-Nader and Jim Casper. Translations provided by the curator of the exhibition, Nicolas Combarro.
